Choosing by length of stay
For short stays, standard foam mattresses meet most needs. For long-term stays, visco mattresses, which distribute pressure over a wider surface, increase patient comfort.
Cover and hygiene
Liquid-proof, wipeable covers are important for infection control. Zippered covers allow the cover to be replaced when necessary.
Compatibility with the bed
Mattress dimensions should match the bed platform, and on sectioned platforms the mattress should flex to adapt to position changes.
